Hawks Along the Highway
I'm beginning to find new meanings in various things that held little to no meaning to me in the past. Architecture was always an interest, something visual that would catch my attention, but nothing really beyond that. Now architecture is consuming me. The purpose of it, the origins, the complete humanity of it. We live, we work, we sleep and we raise our children with this medium. Architecture, as a whole is a dead language. These days (and for the last few hundred years) people have categorized and cataloged structures into a few styles and this categorization, be it natural and inevitable, has destroyed architecture. Luckily there are a few brave souls willing to alienate themselves from this modern curse of styles and really make a bold statement with their buildings. A bold statement is just not enough though. There has to be a purpose behind the art. There has to be reason and rationality, otherwise the building can only be called a sophisticated statue. Architecture is more than just soulful molding of wood and metal. It's more than a specific style can encase. Architecture is a way of defining us as a human species and that is changing and evolving everyday as we grow as a collective people. I am excited to become a part of such a noble art form and mental practice.
